You’re sitting in english class staring into the wonders of the clock situated at the front of the room. You are bored. Nothing but eagerness for the bell to ring is raging inside of you. You tune back into the class discussion for a split second and hear one word. A key word. You’re not sure what it is. What it means. “Creative.” “RIIINNGG,” the bell goes. You get off your seat and direct your attention to the teacher. “Class, your projects are due next day. Your creative writing projects.” You haltingly exit the classroom, and as you stroll down the hallway, you think to yourself: “What do I write about?” his question is one that most struggle to answer, though, it is ironic how the possibilities are practically infinite. I find that the main issue is that people tend to get overwhelmed with the freedom of choosing a topic that will not only suffice their specific task, but as well as their individual interests. Personally, I can be extremely indecisive when it comes to choosing just about anything, simple things such as choosing what to eat for dinner. When making a decision, I like to analyze the specific topic, considering every factor that could be of concern or alarm to me. By forcing my efforts towards the heavy digging of a topic, I generally find myself with more stress than usual, as I end up digging too profoundly into its harsh matter. If the following be the only thing you take out of this blog post, please let it be: Trust your gut! If you have done a sufficient amount of research and thinking, where you feel that you are comfortable with your decision, don’t let opposing forces dictate your fate. Stick with your instincts and never look back! At this point, some may be inquiring as to what the significance of generating creative ideas truly is. Well, that’s pretty simple. It has no benefit to anything other than YOU! Since it is people that change the world, as the world does not change itself, creative and innovative ideas and topics expand the cumulative knowledge of humans. It will also give you an advantage as you will shoot to an advanced level of comprehensibility and have the skills to analyze far beyond the norms of society and the world. “The big challenge of generating great ideas is freeing yourself from the conventional, mundane thoughts that occupy most of your brain time,” said Kevin Daum during the introduction of his post, 7 ways to generate great ideas. I completely agree with Kevin’s statement; society has had a tight grasp on people’s mind, which has caused people to resort to more typical and ordinary thought processes, simply to assimilate themselves with the rest of the world. I believe that the ones that stand out are of whom push themselves to new heights and explore what is beyond limits, as it is the generation of innovative and creative ideas that were once also unfamiliar. The key to this process is identifying your triggers and finding out what may help you generate big and bold ideas! Below is a list of some simple ways to “find what works,” as covered by Mike Michalowicz in 5 quick ways to get your creative juices flowing.
The following piece is a quote that highlights what we can learn from Albert Einstein and his guide to mastering creativity: “Seek relationships between existing ideas. Nothing new is completely original. Creativity is simply about producing something using a combination of the existing elements of your reality. Start by developing a mental inventory of relevant knowledge, work to connect the dots, and then support those connections with a logical structure.” Coming up with creative and unordinary ideas is a struggle for many, including myself! It can be especially difficult when you must generate ideas for subjects and fields that are not of profound interest to you. Sure, it’s easy to use the simple idea that every one of your peers resorts to, but why not strive for something bigger and better? In the end, however deeply you navigate something will impact you, and in this case, generating and following more innovative ideas will work to your advantage in the future. The generation of creative ideas will not only broaden your intellectuality, but also unlock the doors to a whole new level of life. You will no longer be that ordinary person that analyzes the unaltered idea; you will be considered an elite individual with a fresh and advanced mind, and as result, you will have a unique perspective on life. Don’t wait for inspiration; initiate that spark and eventually there will be a firework!
