Goal setting is something that everyone must do in their life. If you don't set goals in your life, then it's relatively sure that you will be very disappointed with your results. A quote by Zig Ziglar says that "If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time." The quote is expressing about Aiming at nothing is establishing yourself up to achieve nothing. Setting up goals is very important in your life. Goals determine motivation and direction. For example, if you don’t have a goal in your mind, it will be challenging to stay on task and do all the homework at school, etc. So today we’re going to talk about how to set up a goal correctly and assist you to become better. There are 3 rules you must follow to set up a goal:
When setting up a goal, you will also need to arrange a period and take it to step by steps. Goals can divide into short term and long term goals. Short goals are the goals that you want to achieve in a short period like within 6 months or so. Long term goals are the goals that you want to achieve in a long period like 1 year and above. Once you set up a time limit, you have to take it steps by steps. Some people will stop working toward their goal in the middle because they think it’s too hard to do. However, that's all because they set their standard up too high. For example, I am a professional swimmer, and if I set my goal of winning 8 Olympic gold medals at the Olympic game in less than two years, there's no way I can get it. However, if I set my goal to make the World Junior Championship this year, it will be much easier but also hard at the same time. So take your goal seriously and work on it step by step. Lastly, when setting up a goal, you need to be specific about what you want. You need to understand what you need at first and then set a goal. For example, you can’t just say I am going to study hard and try to go to Harvard University. Okay, I know you want to go to Harvard University, and you say you’re going to study hard, but how are you going to study specifically to get into Harvard University? An example goal that I will have would be: I want to go to Harvard University. I am going to go to swimming college and find out about the head coach’s email and starting to communicate with him this week on the weekend. After the head coach has given me the standards of the University (for example SAT score - 1450, and GPA 3.5), I will study SAT practice questions one hour per day and try to get a score higher than 1450. I am bad at reading, so I will start to read 1 chapter a day. This would be a good example goal that I would have when breaking it down into detail pieces. So don’t just give a general goal, be specific about what you want. To conclude, goal setting is not a hard thing to do, but achieving it might be a hard thing to accomplish. Sometimes you might give up in the middle, but whenever you think you’re about to give up, think about why you want to achieve your goal, think about what you will get as a reward at the end after you accomplish it. Therefore, never give up until the very end, always believe you will always find your way.

Life does not last forever. However, we do not know when we will have to say goodbye to this world. Perhaps the person sitting next to you right now may not be in this world tomorrow... Let's talk about the things that I regret the most. While I was writing this blog, my grandfather passed away in Japan. It was a sudden incident that made it feel like my brain was shutting down. The first thing that I came to my mind after I heard about my grandfather was that I could not say "Thank you" or "Sorry" to my grandfather anymore. After you finish reading my blog, I want you to express your love to the important people in your life as soon as possible because you do not know when you might lose them. No one has any knowledge of the future. I was proud of my grandpa who was a really smart and charismatic person. When I was in elementary school I often brought mathematics textbooks to my grandpa's house and we would solve problems together. Thanks to that, my elementary school grades are always high, and my grandpa said that he was really proud of me. However, I eventually stopped bringing math textbooks or any school books to him and we stopped studying together. This was because I wanted to improve myself without leaning on his support. I also wanted him to be even prouder of me than before. Over time, I became a junior high school student, and I had to learn all new things in an unknown place called Japan. He tried to do as much to support me and my education as he could. I refused his help because I thought that he would think more of me if I overcame this situation by myself. But, no matter how many times I refused, he kept contacting me to offer his assistance. That kindness was an obstacle to me... I began to ignore him and maintained only the minimum necessary contact. Even when I decided to go to Canada as a high school student, he said "Please contact me at anytime. I am always by your side." To be honest, I wanted to apologize to him at that time, but I did not do that. It was because I thought that I could say it anytime. However, it was foolish of me to think that since now it is impossible.
My lesson for you: ・You should say "Thank you" or "Sorry" every day to your important people. ・If you fall into the same situation as me, then talk to someone as much as you can and convey your feelings (cry a lot). ・Read like these pages and feel better ↓ https://pairedlife.com/problems/How-to-Say-Sorry-Wife-Husband-Girlfriend-Boyfriend-Spouse , ・After losing someone who is important to you, listen to music that you can sympathize with. Here are my recommendations. Both songs have English subtitles, don't worry ;) → https://youtu.be/-vTDl63EERM , https://youtu.be/Y6EynWGGNDI Kai I Unfortunately bullying is a very common occurrence nowadays, whether that be in school, social gatherings or at home. Im sure someone in this class has personally experienced it or maybe even bullied someone themselves. When I say the word bullying, the image of a big kid picking on a smaller kid probably pops into your head but it comes in all different forms. Googles definition of bullying is to seek harm, intimidate or coerce someone who seems vulnerable so it could be verbal or physical. People become bullies for a couple different reasons. First off they are insecure about themselves so they try to bring others down, secondly they are sad or in a rough spot so they want others to feel pain or suffer and finally they are just a jerk who does it fun. None of these reasons make it ok or acceptable to bully someone.Even the little things like getting called a name you don't like or playful punches can have quite a negative effect on people. In some cases it can get to the point where someone gets beat up all the time and there is more than one bully. Those situations are big problems, but cyberbullying might be the biggest culprit of them all. Hiding behind a screen makes it incredibly easy to say and do whatever you want to whoever you want. That reasoning alone has made it so that 43% of kids have been bullied at some point whilst online. https://www.bullying.co.uk/
So far in my life im lucky enough to say that I haven't been bullied but i have had friends who experienced it. Standing up or resolving your bullying situation is always hard but it doesn't have to be done alone. Parents, teachers, friends, counsellors and help lines are all viable options. One thing to keep in mind is you are always above your bully and they are always in the wrong. Jack C I’ve been thinking a lot lately, mostly about what school am I going to after high school, and what courses am I going to take. Like almost everyone at the school, minus the 12’s, it is time for the students to conduct their course selection. It really puts things into perspective, I’ll be going into my senior year and graduating. The craziness that will ensue when September starts should be interesting. I’ve never really been one to stress about things, so I am just going to take my senior year one day at a time, and soak up every moment. It still lingers in my mind, that I soon will become an adult, and have to fend for myself in “the real world”, and get a real job, instead of working at Marshalls. Some people will wonder how to deal with all of the baggage of Grade 12, so I found some tips to deal with stress of your final year of high school. 1. Take time for self-care: This means the basics, like sleeping, and eating. You want to take care of yourself before anything else. 2. Take each assignment one step at a time: Don’t try and cram everything in one night or leave everything till the last minute, try not to overwhelm yourself, and take time with each assignment . 3. Stay balanced during exams: Exam season can me stressful, with some carrying more weight than others, so just keep calm, study hard (within reason), and find time to enjoy non school related things. Grade 12 should not just be all stress, anxiety, studying, etc. I personally will try to have as much fun as I can before the end of senior year. So finding a perfect balance is key, you should have designated time to study, and time to enjoy yourself and have fun. The one thing though that will constantly linger throughout my mind is getting accepted into a good university. Most people have their list of top schools they want to attend, for me I want to go to UBC, but there is baggage that comes along with it, like tuition fees, etc. That can cause more stress and anxiety, and you don’t want to deal with more stress than you already need. This article on how to deal with university/college application stress. As I conclude the blog post, I look forward to my future not with stress and anxiety, but with excitement for the memories, and people I will meet as I further my education, and hopefully get into a good university.
Jake V Love. What does this four letter word really mean? Well, it means an intense feeling of deep affection, or a great interest, and or a pleasure in something. But really love is not just a feeling. Yes, the feeling is the start of it. But really, love is commitment. I feel that to love someone or something halfway is not realistic. Either you do, or you don’t. So if you do, why not just give it everything. Love is the willingness to sacrifice your needs and to put the needs of someone else’s before yours. At least if it fails, you’ll know you laid it all there. Now, if a little child came up to me asking me what the meaning of love is, I would sit them down and play “L-O-V-E”, Nat King Cole’s famous song. I would tell the story of my first encounter of love. I came down into my kitchen and saw my parents making pancakes together. They were singing at the top of their lungs, and I felt this energy coming off of both of them. Looking into their eyes, I knew that they had special. This is the kind of love between two humans. True love is an unconditional feeling of appreciation and affection. As I grow older, I tend to find myself wishing for that morning to come faster, so I can experience this feeling of love too. But at 16 years old, my love doesn’t have to go to someone else, but it goes to myself. This is called self love. Self love is regard for one’s own well-being and happiness. It is simply one of those concepts that you just receive overtime and do not logically understand it, you just feel it inside of you. Pride gets in the way of a lot of potentially beautiful moments. If you get one life, why not live a great one. Why not live with that feeling of love. After a while, all the little things that you force yourself to live, start to pile up. And then you’re left with a heavy heart and all kinds of regret. All because you wanted to stay safe and not make yourself vulnerable to loving someone or something you are doing. You can’t let hurt change you, as hard as it might try. As humans, we are a result of the experiences life hands us and how we react to those experiences. In all of our experiences, what type of person does it make us if we only are in the “halfway” range. We can all do ourselves a small favour by saying what we need to say and by living passionately. If life can be gone so quickly and so unexpectedly, why not live it with love. A lot can happen in a moment. Love can come in all forms and passions. Just do not be afraid to go and find it. It can be hard to live in such an extreme way; a lot of people will not know how to respond. But there are certain times when it’s better to say too much than to not say enough. Even if you’re hurt or embarrassed, it never lasts forever, that is the beauty of time because eventually things fade.
Anna R Growing up, I remember feeling frustrated with school because I wasn’t excelling as fast as most of my peers. I couldn’t soak up concepts as fast as they could. This lead me to feeling unworthy and miniscule compared to others. Within the public school system I notice that in group environments, people who don’t understand how to factor a quadratic with a leading coefficient often get overlooked or seem as a liability, all because of a math concept. I never felt like people took me seriously because I wasn’t the best student, but I still worked just as hard as everyone else. It took me a long time to really open my eyes to the fact that labelling all the parts of an animal cell does not define you and should not define your status whatsoever. Psychologist Howard Gardner felt that Mathematics and Verbal aren’t the only ways in which people can be intelligent, so he then developed the Theory of Multiple Intelligences and split it into nine parts which are as follows: 1. Naturalist Intelligence – A keen eye for detail, very in tune with nature, and often love exploring. They find patterns and relationships to nature. These types of people would be great at surviving in the wild. 2. Musical Intelligence - Good at thinking in patterns, rhythms, and sounds. Have a keen ear for pitch and are good at creating music, and math (most of the time). 3. Logical Mathematical Intelligence – Great at analyzing problems and mathematical operations. These people are great at reasoning, recognizing patterns, logically analyze problems, and think conceptually. 4. Existential Intelligence – Good at philosophizing and thinking about questions that may not have a definite answer. They are like challenging concepts and are not easily confused by their own feelings. 5. Interpersonal Intelligence – Good at communicating with others and noticing shifts in others’ moods and motives. They can easily see multiple perspectives on a subject. 6. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence – These types of people love movement. They have high body awareness and good motor skills. Because of this, they are good at activities that involve movement, such as sports and dance. They learn best by doing, and experimentation. 7. Linguistic Intelligence – These people are better than average at understanding subtle differences in meaning. They pick up new words and languages quicker. They tend to have a broader vocabulary than others. 8. Intra-Personal Intelligence – Good at understanding their own feelings and thoughts and know how to fuel that to achieve their goals. They are great at self-motivating without any reward. Often good philosophers and psychologists. 9. Spatial Intelligence – Good at things that require mental manipulation of physical perspectives. They do not easily get lost and have great graphic and artistic skills, as well as image manipulation skills. I’ve come to realize not to compare myself to others. Sure you can name every single muscle in the human body, but can you write and produce a song in under 2 hours? My point is that everyone is different, and staying in your lane with what makes you the happiest will lead you to living a happy, fulfilling life (at least that’s what I believe). Your intelligence should not be defined by what your grades are in school, but rather what you excel at, and what you are passionate about. You are much more than what’s on a piece of paper because no one is the same, remember that the next time you feel pale in comparison to someone else.
Connor N If you found your friend tripped over in the middle of the hallway at school, or if you saw old women walking with a heavy bag, you would go up to them and offer help? When someone close to you is in difficult situation and seeking help, you will at least listen to he/she. You are kind. But why should we be kind to others? One of the reason is simply because you will feel better and improve self-esteem due to your action. Or it might be because “be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle” which Plato once said. Kindness is in the cycle, if you be kind to someone, that someone would be kind to you. Then let’s see what you would say If you tripped over in the hallway at school, you would probably go like “I’m stupid, hope nobody saw that”. Once I was practicing the piano for the recital, I made mistakes with the same part over and over again, I was so tired of myself, and “Why do I keep making the same mistake? Why can’t I even do this easy simple stuff?”. When something bad happens, we blame ourselves. This is not only because of my lack of self-confidence, but because I am hard on myself. Not being strict, being mean. Sometimes people are required to be mean to urge to sacrifice yourself in order to make better results. However, we tend to be too mean at times. If the person tripped over was others than you, you won’t talk to them in the way you reacted to yourself. Why can’t we be kind to ourselves when we can to others? Being kind to yourself is one of the most important step of self care, but how should one take care of themself? Briefly, I believe it is “to cherish your feeling and thoughts, and interests”. Your feelings and thoughts are the things you want to value the most, otherwise how could people don’t live their lives be kind to others? If you could not value yourself, you would feel like you need somebody you can rely on or wait until something special happens to make you feel accepted enough. But you don’t want to be like that. You want to be able to value yourself on your own. In real life, it is difficult to value and take care of yourself when the society and outside world are often times telling us to be strict to self, and kind to others. So the steps below might help!
Have you ever noticed that each day consists of more or less the same routine every day? For me it looks like this: wake up, get ready, throw some snacks together for breakfast and lunch, then school. At school it’s the same classes, the same flex space and the ongoing procrastination. After school I have XBLOCK musical theatre or homework and then work or go to youth. I have come to the same point in my life multiple times where I am just so bored of living the same week over and over again. My question is why is that? Why don’t we make an effort to make life interesting sometimes or to go on spontaneous adventures? Why don’t we meet new people and go do things we’ve never done before? I’m sure you can predict the answer: WE ARE IN LOVE WITH COMFORT!! But comfortable things get boring after a while haven’t you noticed? When was the last time you tried a new food? Or the last time you decided to go out to do a fun activity you’ve never done before with your friends? Life is not meant to be repetitive and boring, it is meant to bring excitement and surprises and to be lived to the fullest! Life begins at the end of your comfort zone! As I'm sitting here writing this, I often look back on my life and think about the people and experiences that have made my exciting and adventurous. The people in my life, the places I’ve been and the memories I’ve made have all come together to make my life the way it is. Although I am not one to say that my life is the most exciting, what put all these questions into my head about why it isn’t, was as simple as a text from a loved one. Around 20 minutes ago I received a message saying “ hey do you want to just drop everything tomorrow and go on an adventure to Seattle, we could go to the zoo or down to the market, whatever you like let's just go on an adventure”. Imagine if we actually took time to do spontaneous things and to live life to the fullest each day! What holds us back though is comfort, excuses, and often fear. For those of you like me, I have a massive bucket list that I am determined to complete. But how come I haven’t made an effort to go out of my comfort zone to do them? The key to living a life full of adventures and excitement begins with the desire to try something new, to go out of your comfort zone and to be courageous. Cause honestly, why not? Could you sacrifice that thing that’s holding you back for an opportunity to learn more about yourself, to adventure and communicate with new people? I am a huge believer that everything happens for a reason. So don’t be afraid to take risks. Ya know it is important to take time for yourself!!! It is important to sometimes be like yeah you know what I’m actually going to pursue this or I’m going to finally going to go to this place I’ve been dreaming about for years. Cause that is what makes life interesting. And it doesn’t have to be a big thing like a spontaneous adventure to Seattle, it could be shaking up your morning routine, eating a heck of a ton of food just for the fun of it, caring less about the little things and being open to what life has to offer. There are so many other ways for you to find excitement in your day to day life, but it does involve effort and an open mind. My challenge for you is to step out of your comfort zone; to try something new! Because I can guarantee you that there is more to this life then your same old boring routine. Life is meant to be spent adventuring and learning and growing as an individual. So what is it today that you’re going to try or do to make your everyday routine more exciting? What changes need to be made?
Never be afraid to try something new, because life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already know:) - Anonymous Emily C |
