2020 is an unforgettable year in human history that has entirely messed up our “peaceful” society. But have you ever thought about the fact that our human beings have never lived in a peaceful world? There are tons of potential dangers we don’t know are affecting our society that can lead to war in a sudden. Therefore, it is time to improve our stress resistance right away in order to avoid unexpectations.
Overall, I think the most important tip is still your experience in society. Pandemic is a “superclass” for anyone, because most of them have experienced such a sudden event in their life. Nevertheless, it is not a bad thing either, maybe we will never encounter this kind of situation in the future without pandemic. This time we have no reasons to be scared in front of any difficulties because they are so easy to confront compared to pandemic’s influence. My dad told me a word when I was young, “Everything you’ve done and experienced is meaningful.” Once we experience them, nothing is valuable to be scared of.

As this school year is rolling towards an end we all begin thinking of what's next. All my friends are stressing about exams and getting into schools. I personally am taking a year off after highschool and I am so happy that I have kept to that decision. In english my teacher just showed us a great video about how you think about stress and what that can change for you. I highly suggest watching it. Stress is defined as a physical or emotional mindset that is derived from the circumstance that is troubling or uncomfortable. Stress is often thought of as a bad thing, but why is that? Many people think of stress and the idea of a jittery hands and shaky tone come to mind. But are these things the body's way of showing anxiety or preparing you for the task ahead. This Ted-Talk about stress could change your life. During this presentation Kelly McGonigal provided facts from researches that proved that the idea of stress is all in the mindset in which you think of it. If you believe it to be a negative thing, then that's exactly what it will be. Then she even said that the people that thought of stress as a negative thing were 30% more prone to death! Where as people that thought of stress as something that can help them, were no more likely to die than those that had little stress.Thats pretty damn scary considering the general outlook on stress. So this brings to mind how can you make stress a friend and not a foe. In life everyone will face stress as some point. Whether it is a family death, a threat of losing your job, or just the overwhelming feeling of life. The important thing is not to allow stress to drag you down like a small ship in a tidal wave, but to become the voyaging ship that sails through the rough water. This is done through personal development and grothe. You must think of each stressful time as a building block of life. Or perhaps a stepping stone. Each situation that creates stress is another tidal wave coming to wipe you away. Instead of allowing that take a deep breathe and think about why this situation is stressing you. From there you have to accept your feelings and devise a plan to work though you stress. This plan will not come overnight however. It will have to be developed over time and with each challenge you will become stronger and more resistant. As my tests are approaching an important evaluations i'll just remember what i'm looking forward to when it's all done and soon i'll go back to that video and revisit my feelings towards stress- you should do the same.
Matthew F What is stress? And what causes it? Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires hard thought that could go against you or make you think in ways that you wish not too. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses that could cause emotional strain or tension. Things that cause stress are called stressors. There are many things that could cause stress. That could go from too much school work to conflicts at home, so many things can cause stress so it's important to know when you are stressed and how to solve the problems that it brings to you. Is stress normal for me to get? Stress is a normal part of life. You can experience stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts, even positive changes in your life can cause you stress its all dependent on your situation and your mental health at the time.Your palms may sweat, your mouth could get dry, and your stomach can twist but it’s all very normal. What does stress do to me? And should I worry about it ? Stress can lead to anxiety, Cardiovascular disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and strokes. Worry no, if anything that will cause more stress on you and everything will go downhill from there. Should the stress be left alone absolutely not. Stress that's left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. If you are noticing signs of stress you should most definitely that to an adult you trust Symptoms of being stressed

Cameron D R This year I am in grade 11. In grade 8,9,10 school was very different. It feels like a whole different world now in grade 11. It’s like the turning point. Everything matters now, what I do after high school matters now. I’m very overwhelmed . Thinking about the future, as well as trying to do good in my classes I’m in now. Did you know there is a study that shows kids in school now have the same stress levels as patients in psych wards in 1867. I’ve been exploring ways to cope with the stress and I will share them here.
Making lists helps me stay organized and on task. It plays a huge part in my school homework schedule. Planning ahead makes you feel less worried about the future and more prepared. If you go to school know your resources. The councillers, teachers and principals are all there for you. Also your parents and friends. The most important thing is no matter how stressful life gets, do one thing a day you love. Even something small, for me it is taking me dog for a walk, or having one of my favourite foods. Life can be very stressful but it is important to know you are not alone. Izabella S I’ve been thinking a lot lately, mostly about what school am I going to after high school, and what courses am I going to take. Like almost everyone at the school, minus the 12’s, it is time for the students to conduct their course selection. It really puts things into perspective, I’ll be going into my senior year and graduating. The craziness that will ensue when September starts should be interesting. I’ve never really been one to stress about things, so I am just going to take my senior year one day at a time, and soak up every moment. It still lingers in my mind, that I soon will become an adult, and have to fend for myself in “the real world”, and get a real job, instead of working at Marshalls. Some people will wonder how to deal with all of the baggage of Grade 12, so I found some tips to deal with stress of your final year of high school. 1. Take time for self-care: This means the basics, like sleeping, and eating. You want to take care of yourself before anything else. 2. Take each assignment one step at a time: Don’t try and cram everything in one night or leave everything till the last minute, try not to overwhelm yourself, and take time with each assignment . 3. Stay balanced during exams: Exam season can me stressful, with some carrying more weight than others, so just keep calm, study hard (within reason), and find time to enjoy non school related things. Grade 12 should not just be all stress, anxiety, studying, etc. I personally will try to have as much fun as I can before the end of senior year. So finding a perfect balance is key, you should have designated time to study, and time to enjoy yourself and have fun. The one thing though that will constantly linger throughout my mind is getting accepted into a good university. Most people have their list of top schools they want to attend, for me I want to go to UBC, but there is baggage that comes along with it, like tuition fees, etc. That can cause more stress and anxiety, and you don’t want to deal with more stress than you already need. This article on how to deal with university/college application stress. As I conclude the blog post, I look forward to my future not with stress and anxiety, but with excitement for the memories, and people I will meet as I further my education, and hopefully get into a good university.
Jake V The whole anxiety thing is something i have struggled with for a while now. I didn't even ever know what somatization was till i experienced it for myself head on. About a year and a half ago i first experienced somatization for the first time waking up feeling paralyzed from the waist down was something that was quite alarming for me and my parents. Who would have thought that not talking about what was going on in my life and struggling to find balance could have resulted in this. Somatization is when the production of recurrent and multiple medical symptoms with no describable organic cause. Somatization basic symptoms are: -nausea -abdominal pain -fatigue -headaches Conversion disorder ( more severe and sudden onset of debilitating symptoms) -paralysis -blindness -numbness -loss of speech -deafness Children's hospital was nothing new to me unfortunately for most of my grade 10 and 11 year i was in and out that counts for a lot of hospital apple juice and the best ice chips down the hall from my room. The thing is what can you do this was the hardest part physiotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy could only do so much. While my stay i learned about a program called music heals every day i would just wait till it hit four o'clock so i could go hang out with the music therapist that helped me overcome my problems through the love of music. This is also the charity emily and i are doing are service project on because i believe kids with somatization and any type of sickness should experience this for many reasons. The I of the Storm The difference between me and you is in my mind an artist is painting a picture So crazy and abstract that my arms, legs, feet and toes are beginning to convey the concept in the wrong way as if two artists are in a grand battle, fiending to paint the next Mona Lisa Since other people can not see or touch anxiety They believe it to be unrealistic You battle your fears, hopes and dreams in a constant 24/7 cycle and mix that with everyday life it is like a town Getting hit by the raging wave of a tsunami and expecting it to leave it dry And sometimes you get stuck in the impact zone and it tosses and turns you until you can’t breathe, gasping for air but eventually you will have to ride the wave again until you learn how to cope with your own personal storm And I finally come up for air The waters are clear and still I have learned to duck under the impact zone Although the waves may still come I now know, not to surf in a tsunami The poem above may not look like much but this was definitely a huge step in the right direction for me. I was never really able to explain how i felt until this grade eleven English project when i could express myself through poetry. Anxiety has definitely helped shaped my life for the good and bad , but i am a strong believer in things happening for a reason and it has definitely made me see life in a different way.
Marika Lyszczyk Everyone experiences anxiety one way or another in their lifetime. Not everyone can tell when they are having an anxiety attack. People have different experiences with anxiety, and have different symptoms. Common Anxiety symptoms:
What is anxiety? Anxiety is your body’s go-to response when you are put in a stressful situation. It could be a test that you have, a class presentation, etc... Anxiety can seem to be taking hold of your body but it doesn’t control you. You are always in control of your body and you can prevent anxiety from being overwhelming. Ways to reduce anxiety:
Some inspirational anxiety quotes: "Fear is inevitable, I have to accept that, but I cannot allow it to paralyze me." -Isabel Allende “You need to let go of your fear and anxiety of being judged by others.” - Gavin Newsom “There are two wolves and they are always fighting, one is darkness and despair, the other light and i hope. Which one wins? The one you feed” - Cherokee Legend “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was ending he turned into a butterfly”-Proverb “Smile, breathe, and go slowly”- Thich Nhat Hanh “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”- Walt Disney Anxiety is a constant factor in my day to day life. When I get anxious I get really fidgety, my legs get restless, tired, and I would lose my appetite. I get really anxious when thinking about what I want to pursue next year after high school, because I have no idea what I will do. Class presentations also give me lots of anxiety since I am typically a shy person and do not like public speaking. I also have major test anxiety, when it comes to actually writing the test I freak out and forget everything. And of course menial tasks like answering questions outloud for fear that I am wrong and/or asking for help because others might think its a stupid question. Statistics and most asked questions about anxiety and my answers 2015 studies show that women are more stressed and anxious than men are. Women were at a 37% level of stress, and men were at a 31% level of stress. 2014 studies show that women are more stressed and anxious than men. Women were at a 32% stress level, and men were at a 25% stress level. FAQ’S:
2. What does anxiety feel like? Anxiety is when you get all shaky and nervous and your body can’t function properly. But it can be different depending on the person. Kassidy P |
