Anxiety. It is a normal emotion that everyone will experience once in their lives. Although anxiety can be very minor for most, for others it becomes very serious and it affects their day to day lives. For many teens anxiety can be caused by public speaking, final exams, sports games or even going on a date. These events can cause uneasiness, an increase in heartbeat as well as excessive sweating. However for some teens these symptoms go a lot further than what is considered typical symptoms for anxiety. It affects them in such ways that it can negatively affect friendships and family relationships, participation in extracurricular activities and it can also affect their schoolwork. Although some level of anxiety is good, once it interferes with your day to day life, the presence of an anxiety disorder should be considered. According to the National Institutes of Health nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13-18 will experience an anxiety disorder. Between 2007-2012 anxiety disorders in teens and children have gone up 20%. The reason anxiety disorders in teens and children are on the rise is because of high expectations and pressure to succeed. There is a survey that was done every year by Higher Education Research which asked college freshmen if they were feeling overwhelmed with everything they had to do. In 2016, 41% of them said yes, which is pretty high considering that is almost half. In the year 2000 it was only 28% and in 1985 it was 18%. Another reason it is on the rise is because we live in a world that feels scary and threatening, this is a much bigger issue in the US rather than in Canada. There has been an increase in school shootings, which results in more lockdowns and drills in school. Here are some different tips that I use to deal with anxiety:
Anxiety has always been a problem in my life and I have found meditation as well as spending some time unplugged really helps calm me down and feel relaxed. Maya A Further reading: https://foundrybc.ca/resource/anxiety/ https://www.psycom.net/hidden-signs-teen-anxiety/

I agree with your ideas.Anxiety is becoming more common among middle school students, and most of the stress comes from school or native families. I think these students need more understanding and care

Hey heyy, good blog, very relatable. Everyone has felt with some level of stress before so I liked the tips at the end because they can be useful to everyone. Personally I don’t find mediation relaxing at all for me cuz it’s hard to forget everything thats happening and what I have to do, but spending time away from my phone can definitely help me relax and focus on important things. I also like the numbers and statistics you put cuz it shows how serious and common anxiety is. Good job!

Everyone has more or less anxiety in their own lives. From my prescriptive, a little pressure will convert to the propulsion. However, too much anxiety can become a burden. I think these methods proposed in the article are very practical and good methods.
