Everyone at some point in their life has given up or stopped believing they could do something. This was me four years ago after tearing some of the ligaments in my knee while playing soccer. I believed that I wouldn’t be able to play ever again, which really put me into a sober mood for a while. Luckily, I didn’t need surgery to repair the ligaments, and I was back playing soccer within a couple of weeks. I look back now and realize that going back to playing so soon was probably not the smartest idea because about a month later I re-injured it in practice. I began to fall into a very unhappy mood again, not just because I was injured again, but due to the fact that it was my choice to go back so soon, and because of that I might never be able to play again which really scared me. I had a super support system with my parents, my teammates, and my coaches which really helped me and gave me the motivation to work hard so I might be able to play again. After taking a season off to rehab my knee it made me think that if I had stopped believing in myself and the people around me, I might never have had the courage or strength to go back to playing the sport that I love. No matter what you are going through just remember that there will always be someone there to help you through it and just keep believing in yourself. You can do anything if you believe in yourself and the others around you.

yes, believing in yourself can lead to great things, it opens up opportunities to new worlds of ideas. however if you don't have others that believe in you then you believing in yourself is a whole lot harder.

Never give up no matter how hard life gets. Keep persevering and keep pushing towards your goal no matter how hard the road is.

i can totally relate to this, not in a sports sense but in just a general way. when things in life get tough its easy to fall into this sense of hopelessness and unbelief of our competence. its so true that we need to just trust and believe in ourselves and to have others help us as well along the way!

Totally get it; I have made the mistake of returning to soccer too early on several accounts after tearing my LCL. It took me two years to fully recover, and now, I continue to deal with the aftermath of it. I regretted the dumb choices that I made back in grade eight, but support is what got me through my recovery too. Thank you for sharing! Glad that you are all recovered and back to playing :)

After I finished reading this blog, I can immediately relate it with my swimming. I am a professional athlete, and professional athlete will always go through many many tough times. Sometimes up, sometimes down. Jeremy Lin said that an athlete’s career will go through 5% of success, achievement, and 95% of the times will be down, depressed, wanting to give up, injures, etc. As you can see that there’s only less than 1% of the world population can get to the top, for example like the Olympic Games, because many’s thinks that they can’t make it, they thinks that they can’t go any farther in swimming so they just give ups. Now is when the believe part comes in. If athletes won’t even believe in hthemself, then they will definitely failed at the end. So to conclude, believe in yourself is very important!!

i like that you write about your own experience and how it made you feel when people supported you. also that last sentence is really something you should never forget. Thanks for reminding me! :)

I liked reading this blog because i can relate, I tore a couple of ligaments in my ankle 2 years ago when i was also playing football. It really put me in a depressed mood for a long time because i missed playing, so i understand how you felt. Proud of you for staying with it and realising that you had a great support system which is so important. Nice blog!

I also struggled to recover from a pretty bad injury. The difference with ur method and my method is that i was just stubborn and basically gaslighting myself that “im not that weak to be struggling to walk down the hall” which kinda affected my mental health and relationship with people and school. If i had believed in myself instead of nagging on and on like u did i probably wouldve had a more positive result. Now i know what to do. Thank you!
