Discipline is the practice of following a set of rules in order to maintain order and authority within oneself. Many people discipline themselves for their own benefit, while others do it for the benefit of others. Let's be honest: most of us try and fail to maintain control over ourselves in some way. One of the best examples of this is procrastination, which occurs when we try to push ourselves to complete our work on time but end up leaving it until the last minute. Discipline is a practice, and every day you try counts because it's all about small victories or progress. It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” – J.K. Rowling. This quotation is unique because its core purpose is to help us live our lives the way we want to live them, free of outside distractions. It is the decision to do what you should be doing, to work toward a greater goal while remaining true to yourself. This allows you to work toward long-term happiness. Long-term happiness is the feeling you get after putting in a lot of effort and seeing the results. Consider working out or studying: both require you to stay focused on a larger goal so that when you achieve it, you feel motivated to do it again and again. Short-term happiness, such as scrolling through Tiktok, Instagram, or playing games, is fleeting. While these are not harmful in moderation, scrolling through social media keeps you focused on what others are doing rather than what you are doing. As teenagers, life can be stressful with relationships, school, and adjusting to adulthood, which is why it's critical to focus on what makes you happy and let go of what doesn't. "Create habits that serve you, and replace habits that don't," Lev said in our YEY lessons. Making your bed every morning, writing in a journal, or brushing your teeth before bed are all simple ways to improve your discipline. It can also be anything that makes you a better version of yourself, such as going to the gym, studying, or picking up a new hobby. Discipline is one the best ways to make your life fun, as it has for me. I used to take everything for granted, antisocial and always cared about what people thought about me, before I started doing small things that made my life better. I made my bed every morning, pushed myself to talk to people, and learned to cook. Now, I try to be productive in any way every day, go to the gym, and take out of my life what doesn’t make it better, like scrolling through TikTok endlessly. Discipline has made mine and many others’ lives much better, which is why you should do things that are fun, and
don't forget to live your life to the fullest- you only live once after all. Anooj C An article to help you get started: https://blog.hubspot.com/sales/self-discipline

Its so true that social media restricts our discipline. For me sports bring back the discipline I lost at my phone. So yes I know that too much screen time is not well for me, but sometimes the joy factor is too big. I try to build up discipline in different parts of my life, like with eating habits, school work and also sport.

i enjoyed reading this quite a bit. it's very well done in the sense that it's informative and helpful while still being very open-ended. giving people a goal and a general direction is generally more productive than just instruction, especially when it's something as personal as self discipline. i think you've done that very well.

Great blog, you seemed to repeat the first paragraph twice though which i'm sure was a mistake, either way i relate to the discipline topic and enjoyed your take on it

I thought it was really clever to include a quote, because I haven't seen any quotes in any blogs yet. I have almost zero discipline so I end up being lazy around the house instead of getting things done. You gave some really good advice that I will definitely need to follow.

Displicene is an important topic to discuss, especially with the generation that we are. It is rare, especially at our school, to see people displine themselves, and to hold themsleves to a certain standard. It is amazing that you are already on yourself about the future, school, working out, etc.

Discipline is a very dificult subject to accurately explain and talk about witout falling into cliches and tyipical self-help phrases we all have heard about. I think you did a good job explaining what discipline is for you. However, I missed a longer part on your personal experience with building discipline because you seem to have lots of experience on it.
