Love. What does this four letter word really mean? Well, it means an intense feeling of deep affection, or a great interest, and or a pleasure in something. But really love is not just a feeling. Yes, the feeling is the start of it. But really, love is commitment. I feel that to love someone or something halfway is not realistic. Either you do, or you don’t. So if you do, why not just give it everything. Love is the willingness to sacrifice your needs and to put the needs of someone else’s before yours. At least if it fails, you’ll know you laid it all there. Now, if a little child came up to me asking me what the meaning of love is, I would sit them down and play “L-O-V-E”, Nat King Cole’s famous song. I would tell the story of my first encounter of love. I came down into my kitchen and saw my parents making pancakes together. They were singing at the top of their lungs, and I felt this energy coming off of both of them. Looking into their eyes, I knew that they had special. This is the kind of love between two humans. True love is an unconditional feeling of appreciation and affection. As I grow older, I tend to find myself wishing for that morning to come faster, so I can experience this feeling of love too. But at 16 years old, my love doesn’t have to go to someone else, but it goes to myself. This is called self love. Self love is regard for one’s own well-being and happiness. It is simply one of those concepts that you just receive overtime and do not logically understand it, you just feel it inside of you. Pride gets in the way of a lot of potentially beautiful moments. If you get one life, why not live a great one. Why not live with that feeling of love. After a while, all the little things that you force yourself to live, start to pile up. And then you’re left with a heavy heart and all kinds of regret. All because you wanted to stay safe and not make yourself vulnerable to loving someone or something you are doing. You can’t let hurt change you, as hard as it might try. As humans, we are a result of the experiences life hands us and how we react to those experiences. In all of our experiences, what type of person does it make us if we only are in the “halfway” range. We can all do ourselves a small favour by saying what we need to say and by living passionately. If life can be gone so quickly and so unexpectedly, why not live it with love. A lot can happen in a moment. Love can come in all forms and passions. Just do not be afraid to go and find it. It can be hard to live in such an extreme way; a lot of people will not know how to respond. But there are certain times when it’s better to say too much than to not say enough. Even if you’re hurt or embarrassed, it never lasts forever, that is the beauty of time because eventually things fade.

Anna, this is such a deep blog :) really caught my attention! I love you started the blog in vague terms of love, and then steered it towards self-love, which is often times disregarded. Really well written; great job all around!

I loved reading this blog! Generally I cringe at the word "love", but the part about your parents and the pancakes made me smile and think that that's what I want. But I guess you have to love yourself before you can love anyone else, so I think that self love is just as important if not more important than loving someone else. Great blog Anna!

Love is definitely a very powerful thing. Some people find it easily and some never find it at all. Our parents are normally a very good example of true love.
